More Grandparents!

Elsa, Aaron, & I had some more visitors this weekend. Elsa got to meet another set of grandparents. Grandma & Grandpa Oppold drove all the way to NC to meet their newest granddaughter! We had a really nice weekend full of delicious home-cooked meals and nice walks around Chapel Hill. Aaron & I got to give the UNC campus tour and were finally back to the walking tour, which was exciting! We also got a chance to take a nice little break and go to Dunkin' Donuts and Target without Elsa. It was really nice to get some old-school Aaron time, but at one point, we were talking about Elsa and both decided we missed her a lot! Elsa got a LOT of cuddling time with her grandparents and I KNOW she loved it! Thanks for a great weekend Grandma & Grandpa! :)

Elsa is 6 weeks old today. I know I say this every week, but I still can't believe it! I am trying to enjoy every minute of her, but it still goes by so fast. I still look at her and think "I can't believe you were in me!" I don't know how people take only 6 weeks of maternity leave. That would mean that I had school tomorrow - I would not be able to handle that for many reasons. I would be extremely tired, for one...but I am not ready to leave Elsa. I don't think I ever will be ready, though. I can't think about that yet...

Elsa puts her feet in the ocean!

We went to Hilton Head Island, SC this weekend to spend some time with Aaron's parents and aunt & uncle. Grammie & Pop Pop got to spend some quality time with their granddaughter. Pop pop hadn't met Elsa yet and he was very excited! Elsa got to feel the ocean also. She really liked it down on the beach. She was so relaxed and fell asleep almost immediately! I think she liked the calming noises...maybe the waves sound like a uterus?
Elsa also got eaten by one of Daddy's crab legs...

Happy 1 Month Birthday Lil' Pea!

Today is Elsa's 1-month birthday. She celebrated it by sleeping (sort of), pooping, eating, and doing a LOT of crying. Maybe she was upset about turning 1 month, but she cried for a good hour tonight.

She did get to wear a pretty princess birthday hat, though. We will have to save this for future irrelevant birthday celebrations.

Here is our little Wild E. KAT with the real Wild E. Cat. She isn't very much bigger than she was 1 month ago, but she is certainly more alert and definitely more fussy. (Hopefully this fussiness is going to go away soon - we'll keep our fingers crossed...)

Auntie Jaime Visits!

Aaron was away from Wednesday night until Monday morning and instead of having to be alone with my obsessive thoughts for all that time, I had a fabulous visitor for the weekend - Jaime!!
Wednesday night Elsa & I dropped Aaron off at the airport and we were a little sad, so we decided to do what makes us the happiest (and by "we", I really mean "me"...) I got Pizza Hut and watched The Sound of Music. It was a good night :)

Jaime got here on Friday morning and got to experience how exciting it is to take care of Elsa all day. It isn't boring to me because, well, she's my baby and I love every second with her...but I can imagine it would be a little boring for someone not so attached to do nothing but watch her sleep, eat, and poop. Jaime and I watched the entire first season of How I Met Your Mother and a little bit of Family Ties as well.

Jaime proved herself to be quite adept at changing diapers, comforting crying babies, giving baths, and feeding bottles - well done!
Jaime brought Elsa some cute little onesies as a gift and Jon also sent along a gift. Apparently the conversation went something like this:
Jon: I want to give Elsa a present. What does she like most in the world?
Jaime: The only thing Elsa really likes right now is boobs.
Jon: I know what I'll give her!! A Playboy magazine!!
And that is just what he did. Elsa was lucky enough at a mere 4 weeks of age to receive her first porn. What a milestone :) Thanks, Jon! (I couldn't find that milestone sticker on any of her baby calendars or books..."Baby's First Porn")

The other weekend excitement was on Saturday when we decided to go to Teets and got to the car and it wouldn't start because the battery was dead. :( That sucked...thank goodness for Andrew, though...he came through in Aaron's absence and manned up to help me get a new battery! Chrissy says Aaron owes her some husband-fill-in time.

Jaime had to leave on Sunday and Elsa & I were sad to see her go. Thanks for keeping us company!! It really did help my sanity to have someone here with me the entire time. I had very little time to diagnose myself & Elsa with numerous diseases and then cry about them for awhile.

Today Elsa had her 4-week doctor appointment. She has been pronounced in excellent health. She now weighs 9 lbs, 11 oz and is 21 inches long. She has gained almost 2 pounds since she was born - good work growing! We tried a new bottle today after many unsuccessful attempts with the other one and she did GREAT. She drank almost the entire thing with no crying at all - unbelieveable!

Elsa's Video Debut

Here is my first attempt at putting a video clip on the ol' blog. This is probably a good example of one of those times when parents think their kids are wicked cute and everyone else is like "why in the world am I watching this?" Elsa doesn't do much, but here is she is doing just that.

Elsa's First Bottle

Elsa had her first bottle the other night. Mommy was a little bit nervous about trying something new, but Elsa did really well with it. I think she was a little caught off guard at the beginning, but she adjusted. I think Aaron was excited to get to feed her for once! I don't know how often she is going to have bottles - it's a lot more work for Mommy the cow to provide food in that manner, but she'll have to have them eventually. Maybe she'll have another bottle tonight? Good work Elsa!

Bath Time!

Every Sunday Shelley and I go to McAlisters for iced tea (for me) and an Arnold Palmer (for Shelley). Elsa has been joining us for this event for many months now, but only ex utero for the past 3 weeks (Happy Birthday!). While we were there today, all was going well...We were sitting outside enjoying the warm day, and Elsa was sleeping. After 20 minutes of sleep Elsa woke up and decided to do some screaming. She then screamed all the way home. She may have gotten too hot sitting outside in her car seat--her back, and the back of her head, was completely soaked with sweat. So...it was bath time! This was her first bath in the tub. She enjoyed it and it cooled her off.

2 Week Dr. Appointment

Elsa had her 2 week appointment yesterday. The doctor pronounces her in good health. :) Yay! She has gained some weight, which is amazing given how much she poops...but good all the same. Her belly button is still bleeding a little bit now & then, but that doesn't seem to be worrying anyone except me.
The best part of the appointment was when we showed up and the receptionist told me we didn't have an appointment. Do a lot of people just randomly pick a time and show up at the office and pretend they have an appointment at that time? I had the card saying that she had the appointment, but I had left it at home...I kind of wish Aaron had gone home to get it just to prove that we were in fact right and she was a dumbass.
