GD

So I had to drink the orange sugar drink this week - that was on Wednesday. I have to say that I was NOT properly warned by my formerly pregnant friends how much that was going to suck. I was thinking it was no big deal - all I had to do was drink some drink & get some blood drawn. Well, that is so not how that day went down.

I drink the orange drink, which wasn't so bad - it kind of sucked to drink it that fast, but it didn't taste bad. Then I say goodbye to Aaron as he sets off to work and decide to hang out at the computer for awhile before I had to leave for the Dr. So, after about 15 minutes, my stomach starts hurting and I'm like "wow - it feels like I'm going to have some sort of poop explosion" - and then I did (sorry if that is too much info, but oh well!)

Following this episode I start to feel pretty sick to my stomach and I feel a little sweaty/clammy. So, basically feeling like I'm on the verge of some sort of puking episode, I go to my appointment. The doctor is like "Did you drink your drink? Are you feeling kind of sick?" And I'm like "YES - why didn't anyone tell me this was going to make me feel like I was dying??" If I didn't have diabetes before, this drink definitely gave it to me!

Blood gets drawn, I go home & eat some 2nd breakfast/snack and head off to school. All is fine. Until...

About 1 hour after lunch I'm doing some stuff around my classroom and all of a sudden get so dizzy that I have to sit down in the middle of the carpet. I am feeling like I have the spins - and I am pretty sure that I am not drunk. I proceed to drink about 8 cups of water in the next 20 minutes and pee 4 times in the next half hour. Then I finally start to feel normal again.

You'd think this day was over, but it's not. I check my voicemail on the way out of school - it's about 4:40. I have 2 messages from the doctor's office - it's the girl from the blood lab telling me that she was supposed to take 3 vials of blood and she only took 2 and could I please come back sometime before 5:00. So I call and tell her that I can be there about 4:55. I get to the doctor's office and the people at the reception desk don't know the blood girl's name and don't know who I'm talking about. Then they tell me I have to have an appointment. Finally, someone is like "Is that Michelle? Carmen is waiting for her" and they let me go back there. I see all the same people who had seen me that morning and they all think I'm dying - I see the dr. and she is like "what are you doing here? are you okay? what's wrong?" Carmen was very apologetic about me coming back and it was no big deal - the office is 1 mile from my house.

Finally, I was back to normal & the whole adventure was over. I decided there was nothing left for me to do, but spend my night playing rollercoaster tycoon in peace. I still haven't found out if I have the ol' gestational diabetes yet. I suppose that will be an entirely new adventure. Let's hope not...

None of that happened to me. But, it's all part of being pregnant! Just think, you might have to do the 3 hour test like I did! Talk about fun.

You have to fast (telling a pregnant woman to fast in horrible)

I drank 2 bottles of the orange stuff (because I didn't like the other kind they had)

Every hour they have to draw your blood (for 3 hours)

I did get dizzy from the 3 hour test & I started to get the shakes. They told me all I could do was drink water thoughout the test, but after it's done I could eat.

Just hope your results aren't borderline GD or you'll have to do the 3 hour test.
