My class threw me a "surprise" baby shower today - it was very sweet. Unfortunately, you should never ask a 3rd grader to keep a secret, because it is impossible for them. I found out about this surprise about 20 seconds after it was arranged when a student pulled the pink paper out of her backpack and yells "MRS. THORNER - YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE A SHOWER IN THE CLASSROOM?????" To which, several students respond: "It says 'SHH - IT'S A SECRET' stupid." Since then (2 weeks ago) most of them have been pretty good about keeping the secret, however, one particular student has told me 6 times about it. Not smart. Anyway, I acted sort of surprised today, although it was hard, especially after hearing "Mrs. Thorner, is anything happening at 2:30 today in the classroom? Are you SURE?" about a million times...
The shower was very elaborate for a classroom baby shower. One mom made a ridiculously fancy cake (see picture.) Another mom made a corsage out of baby socks - I don't know if you can tell that from the picture. There were party favors for the class - little napkins folded into diapers and filled with candy and cups shaped into booties. The kids were very excited and I have some cute pictures of all of them with me & the baby stuff that I want to put up here, but people get really weird about kid's pictures on the internet, so I guess I better not.

If you look closely at the cake, our baby girl has 5 o'clock shadow.
