Prepared Childbirth

Aaron & I spent our weekend at UNC Women's Hospital for "Prepared Childbirth" class. It was from 10-4 on both days which was a little overwhelming. I guess it was ok, though. We have read a lot of books, so it didn't seem like we were getting tons of new information. She kept describing labor as being "uncomfortable" which is such a big, fat, lie - it would have been easier if she had just said "ok - it hurts a LOT." We watched a lot of videos of all stages of childbirth. I'm pretty glad that I won't have to be watching it - it wasn't NOT gross. At this point, though, I feel like I've seen so many of those videos that it wasn't anything surprising. It was mostly really uncomfortable to sit in the chairs in this room for 6 hours a day - my butt is killing me!!

Aaron & I have decided to see how well-behaved Lil' Pea is and keep telling her to be born next weekend (we may be able to consider next week.) We decided to devote this week to finishing everything that we need to do in order for her to be born - like learn how to use the car seat & stuff. I am hoping to get to school to set up my classroom & work on my 12 weeks of sub plans. After that, Lil' Pea can go ahead and come out. I don't want any of this "2 weeks late" stuff. We'll start pressuring her early! On the other hand, it is really peaceful around here right now - I will miss all my RC Tycoon & crossword puzzles in the nice quiet apartment. I have started a little baby cross-stitch project, too. My mom said I needed a project and that I didn't have to knit booties, but I could find something else!

Tell Lil' Pea you want to meet her soon - she needs encouragement!

I never went to any childbirth classes, but I did read books on childbirth and I watched the shows on TLC. I have to say that no matter how many books you read (or movies / TLC shows you watch) you'll never be ready for childbirth. It's an experience that each individual has to experience on their own.

You don't want to rush her out! You definitely want to make sure she's done developing and ready to live outside the womb. She'll come when she's good and ready. All 4 of mine were late so, I know first hand how sucky it is when they're late (especially in the hot weather).

No, she'll come out when I tell her to.

Hey Lil' Pea, don't you want to come out and get a real name?
Hope to see you soon!

PS- Am I making it up when I say if Aaron "goes in to visit" her she might come out sooner? I think I remember hearing that...

I was thinking of you and the Pea whilst enjoying another great thunderstorm last night. Lil' Pea - won't you come out and dance in the rain with us? I bet she comes sooner than later. Has your belly button popped out yet? All of my cousins popped like a purdue chicken button when they were done!

Keep pressuring her like this, you'll either have the world's best rollercoaster tycoon, or a veeeerry interesting shouting match when she turns 13, 14.

...a one-eye'd rollercoaster tycoon, in response to ashley's suggestion...

I'm sorry that I am the Queen of Inappropriate. It must be a demon inside me because when I say(type) things that are bad they don't sound bad until later.

oh dude I cracked up. I don't know if there were more Serious Authorities in the world (and/or Shelley/Aarbear, who can neither be called serious nor authorities...) who were upset...
